What is a GPON?

A Gigabit passive optical network (PON) is a point-to-multipoint communications cabling architecture in which unpowered optical splitters are used to enable a single optical fibre to carry multiple communications and entertainment services to multiple customers.

GPON consolidates multiple services onto a single fibre cabling network which reduces costs and infrastructure while increasing bandwidth. It provides up to 2.5 Gb/s of downstream data and 1.25 Gb/s upstream to each customer delivering a customisable, high capacity fibre network for digital entertainment, communications and information services.

GPON Services

Services available over a GPON fibre network include: high-speed internet, IPTV, PayTV (Foxtel), Free to Air TV, VOIP & PSTN Telephony Systems, Online Gaming, Skype & Video Conferencing, Building Management Services, and Video on Demand (VOD).

Wired and wireless internet access options are available for in-room and public areas. An option is also available to provide internet access via the TV set using a wireless keyboard. Internet access can be managed per user and per application allowing the creation of different access profiles, and volume or bandwidth quotas for workers, guests and contractors.
