Introduction
Coaxial cable typically has a solid copper or copper-clad-steel centre conductor covered by a non-conductive dielectric insulator. The dielectric is surrounded by foil shields and/or copper braids which create the outer conductor and also protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI). The insulating jacket for the outer conductor, can be made out of many materials, with the most common being PVC.
Application
For digital applications where high frequency response and impedance tolerance are critical, such as SDI, HDTV and S/PDIF. Miniature cables are generally used over shorter distances where size and weight are important factors. Standard size RG59/U cables can be used over longer distances.
